BENGALURU: Karnataka minister B Nagendra, who is out on bail in the alleged Valmiki Development Corporation scam, received relief from the high court on Thursday, which allowed him to travel anywhere within India without prior court permission.

Nagendra had challenged a bail condition requiring him to seek the court’s permission before leaving Karnataka. Hearing his plea, the bench headed by Justice M Nagaprasanna relaxed the restriction, allowing him to travel within the country.

The court, however, made it clear that Nagendra cannot travel abroad without prior permission.

The high court observed that restricting his movement within the country would affect his personal liberty as well as his ability to discharge his responsibilities as a minister.

Nagendra is facing an Enforcement Directorate probe in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation and is currently out on bail.

The order comes amid opposition BJP and JD(S) demands for the removal of ministers facing allegations. The opposition has also threatened to disrupt Assembly proceedings over the issue.
