BENGALURU: A special NIA court in Bengaluru has convicted Syed Fasiur Rehman in connection with the banned ISIS-linked Al-Hind conspiracy and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹48,000 on him.
According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Rehman assisted members of the Al-Hind module by helping purchase tents and knives from a Decathlon outlet for a proposed jungle training camp. He was also found to have participated in conspiracy meetings.
The case centres on alleged efforts by Al-Hind members to promote the ISIS/Daesh ideology and establish a so-called ISIS province in India. Investigators said several meetings were held at the residence of key accused Mehboob Pasha in Gurappanapalya, Bengaluru, where plans for targeted killings and creating communal unrest were allegedly discussed.
The case was initially registered by Karnataka Police in Bengaluru on January 10, 2020, before the NIA took over the investigation and re-registered it on January 23, 2020.
The NIA has so far filed three chargesheets against 20 accused in the case.
The latest conviction follows the earlier conviction of Haneef Khan, who pleaded guilty during the trial and was sentenced on July 14, 2026.
The NIA said the investigation and prosecution proceedings are continuing against the remaining accused in accordance with law.
