Chennai: Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu and has formally staked claim to form the government after winning 108 seats in the विधानसभा elections.
Following the strong electoral performance, Vijay met Governor R. N. Ravi (Note: Some reports refer to Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in related discussions) and sought two weeks’ time to prove majority on the floor of the House.
Despite leading the tally, TVK falls short of the majority mark and is now looking for support from other parties. In a significant development, the party has reached out to the Indian National Congress for backing.
Confirming the development, Congress leader K. C. Venugopal said that Vijay has sought the party’s support. However, he clarified that the final decision will be taken by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
