New Delhi: Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini set sail from Livorno, Italy, on September 12 after completing a successful port call as part of Lokayan 2026.
During its stay, the ship participated in professional interactions and cross-training activities aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and ties between India and Italy.
Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, Chief of the Italian Navy, visited INS Sudarshini and interacted with its crew and trainees. He was briefed on the ship’s voyage and ongoing training activities.
The Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini also called on Rear Admiral Alberto Tarabotto, Commandant of the Italian Naval Academy, and exchanged views on the ongoing expedition.
The ship’s crew also interacted with Luca Salvetti, Mayor of Livorno, and Edoardo Lombardi, Vice Prefect of Livorno, during the port call.
As part of the professional exchange, Indian sea trainees visited ITS Virginio Fasan and the Italian Naval Academy, while Italian naval personnel visited INS Sudarshini.
The interactions provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange operational and training experiences and deepen mutual understanding.
A deck reception was also hosted onboard INS Sudarshini, attended by senior Italian naval officers, local authorities, diplomatic representatives and other distinguished guests.
INS Sudarshini will now continue its voyage under Lokayan 2026, carrying forward India’s maritime outreach and the vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
The expedition highlights India’s emphasis on maritime partnerships, professional naval exchanges and greater cooperation with partner countries.
