Kolkata: The PM Vishwakarma Scheme has crossed a major milestone with 30 lakh beneficiaries completing the prescribed three-stage verification process within three years of its launch, achieving the scheme’s registration target.
The scheme provides traditional artisans and craftspeople with a range of support, including PM Vishwakarma certificates and identity cards, skill upgradation, toolkit incentives, concessional credit, incentives for digital transactions and marketing assistance.
Around 24.50 lakh Vishwakarmas have so far received Basic Skill Training through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Under the credit component, 6.18 lakh beneficiaries have been provided loans of up to ₹1 lakh at a concessional interest rate of 5% per annum. The total loan support extended so far stands at ₹5,297 crore.
Meanwhile, 18.15 lakh modern toolkits have been delivered to beneficiaries at their doorsteps through India Post. The initiative is aimed at helping artisans adopt improved tools and enhance the quality and productivity of their work.
PM Vishwakarma in West Bengal
The West Bengal government decided to onboard the scheme in May 2026. So far, 3,000 beneficiaries have completed the three-stage verification process and registered under the scheme. Skill training is currently being provided to registered beneficiaries.
The third anniversary celebrations of PM Vishwakarma in Kolkata will include the distribution of PM Vishwakarma certificates, Basic Skill Training certificates, loan certificates and toolkits to beneficiaries.
The event will also showcase traditional skills, products and the entrepreneurial potential of artisans and craftspeople, while providing them opportunities to connect with wider markets.
The anniversary marks another step in the government’s efforts to preserve traditional skills, provide artisans with modern tools and training, improve access to institutional credit and markets, and help Vishwakarmas build sustainable livelihoods and develop as entrepreneurs.
