New Delhi: Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag has been selected for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema.
The Union government announced the honour on Wednesday, citing Nag’s remarkable cinematic journey, contribution to Indian cinema and his role in inspiring several generations of audiences and artists.
The announcement was shared by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on X. The award has been conferred on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award selection committee.
Award to be presented on September 22
Nag will receive the honour at the 72nd National Film Awards presentation ceremony to be held at Kevadia in Gujarat on September 22, 2026.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the veteran actor on being conferred the award and praised his contribution to Indian cinema.
“Congratulations to the legendary Anant Nag Ji on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award,” Modi said in a post on X.
The Prime Minister said Nag’s effortless performances, versatility and artistic brilliance had left a strong mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema.
“In whichever role he has played, he brought rare depth and authenticity,” Modi said, describing the honour as richly deserved for a “truly distinguished artist”.
Nag, who has had a career spanning several decades, is regarded as one of the prominent actors of Kannada cinema and has also worked in films across other Indian languages.
