Bengaluru: The detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Bengaluru-Tumakuru Metro corridor has been submitted to the Karnataka government by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, marking a major step towards extending metro connectivity beyond Bengaluru.
The ambitious project is expected to be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and proposes a 59.60-km extension of the Green Line from Madavara on Bengaluru’s outskirts to Tumakuru.
According to officials, the corridor is expected to significantly benefit office-goers, students and daily commuters travelling between Bengaluru and Tumakuru. The DPR estimates that more than 15,000 passengers may use the route per hour in one direction.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced the project in the 2024-25 state budget. The estimated cost of the first phase is around Rs 20,649 crore.
If approved, the metro line will pass through key locations including Nelamangala, Dabaspet and Katsandra before reaching Tumakuru.
As per the DPR, the proposed stations include Madavara, Makali, Dasanapura, Nelamangala, Nelamangala Tollgate, Boodihal, T Begur, Tippagondanahalli, Mahimapura, Dabaspet, Hirehalli Industrial Area, Katsandra, SIT, Tumakuru Bus Stand, Tooda Layout and Shira Gate.
