New Delhi: The Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISL) in Bhadravati, operating under the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has recorded a net profit for three consecutive months, signalling an improvement in its financial performance, Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy said.

The plant posted a net profit of ₹33 lakh in July 2026, ₹1.71 crore in August and ₹1.96 crore in September, marking a gradual improvement in its performance.

Kumaraswamy congratulated the workforce and staff, crediting their dedication, discipline and collective efforts for the turnaround. He said the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was taking steps to strengthen the country’s steel sector and its associated public sector units.

VISL’s net revenue increased from ₹27.48 crore in September 2025 to ₹51.87 crore in September 2026. The plant, which had reported a net loss of ₹3.78 crore in September last year, registered a profit of ₹1.96 crore in the corresponding month this year.

The plant’s overall financial position has also improved, with its net loss for the corresponding period declining from ₹22.77 crore to ₹2.03 crore by September 2026, an improvement of more than ₹20 crore.

Welcoming the progress, Kumaraswamy said the achievement reflected the sustained efforts of employees and the entire management team. He stressed the need to maintain the positive momentum, improve operational efficiency and ensure that the plant moves towards sustainable profitability.

The minister said the recent performance was an encouraging development for VISL and acknowledged the contribution of its workforce in strengthening the unit’s operations.
