BJP Leaders’ Personal Attacks on Kharge Condemnable, Says KPCC’s Ramesh Babu
Bengaluru: KPCC Media and Communication Department chairman Ramesh Babu has criticised what he described as repeated personal attacks by BJP leaders against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, arguing that such remarks undermine the dignity of political discourse.
In a statement, Ramesh Babu said Kharge’s decades of legislative experience and contributions to public life deserved respect, irrespective of political differences. He alleged that BJP leaders had repeatedly targeted Kharge personally instead of engaging with him on ideological and policy issues.
Citing instances dating back to 2015, Ramesh Babu referred to controversies involving BJP leaders and Kharge in Parliament, criticism over his remarks on the RSS, and objections raised over his comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2023. He also cited remarks made by Karnataka BJP leader Araga Jnanendra in August 2023 concerning Kharge’s skin complexion.

Ramesh Babu further alleged that BJP leaders had attempted to undermine Kharge politically, including during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Referring to the controversy surrounding Kharge’s remarks in Patna on October 25, 2026, he said the BJP was entitled to question the Congress president’s statements. However, he maintained that the Congress had an equal right to scrutinise the statements and conduct of BJP leaders.
He called for political parties to focus on policies, facts, parliamentary debates and public accountability rather than personal attacks. Democratic accountability, he said, must apply equally to all political parties.
“Showing respect to a political opponent is not a sign of weakness, but an indication of democratic maturity,” Ramesh Babu said, urging political leaders to uphold constitutional values and mutual respect.
He added that while political differences were natural in a democracy, personal animosity should not replace constructive debate.
