Jaipur: In a tragic incident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, five members of a family were burnt alive after their car caught fire late Tuesday night near Maujpur under Laxmangarh police station limits in Alwar district.

The victims, all residents of Sheopur, included three women, a man and a child. The accident occurred around 1 am while the car was travelling towards Kota, when it suddenly caught fire and was engulfed in flames within moments.

The driver, Vinod Kumar Mehar, managed to jump out of the vehicle and escape. However, he sustained nearly 80% burn injuries and is reported to be in critical condition.

Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, but by then the vehicle had been completely gutted. Senior police officials visited the scene and have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
