New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has said that humiliating or insulting individuals has no place in a democracy, regardless of whether they belong to the ruling party, opposition or any political ideology.
Reacting to the controversy surrounding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, Ramdev said political differences should not come at the expense of constitutional values, civility and democratic decorum.
“We should not lose our civility and decorum. There are various ideologies and political parties in the country; they must be respected,” he said.

Ramdev stressed that respect should be extended to everyone, including the family members of political leaders. He said women and men, as well as people from different social and educational backgrounds, should be treated with equal dignity.
He also said communities across the social spectrum, including Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas as well as SC, ST and tribal communities, deserved equal respect.
According to Ramdev, using abusive or uncivil language or showing disrespect based on skin colour, language, caste, class or political affiliation runs contrary to democratic and constitutional values.
He called for political and social discourse to remain respectful, saying differences in ideology should not become a reason for personal humiliation or discrimination.
