New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has warned of fresh nationwide peaceful protests, alleging that the government has failed to honour its assurance to withdraw FIRs registered against student protesters and refrain from taking punitive action.
CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke, who said he is undergoing treatment for typhoid, posted on X that the party would launch a large-scale peaceful agitation if police action against students continued.
“If the harassment of students at the hands of the police continues, the Cockroach Janta Party will respond with a massive peaceful protest soon. The Government must stop targeting and witch-hunting students,” Deepke wrote.
Addressing a press conference, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das alleged that the Centre had assured on July 25 that FIRs against students who participated in the protests would be withdrawn and that no retaliatory action would be taken. He further claimed that the governments of Bihar and Assam had already issued notifications stating that no action would be taken against protesters.
Das also alleged that the Supreme Court’s interim order did not direct authorities to continue the FIRs and urged the government to fulfil what he described as its earlier commitment, saying the power to withdraw criminal cases rests with the government.
The CJP said the deadline it had set for the government expired on Tuesday and warned that it would resume nationwide protests if the FIRs were not withdrawn.
