Cricket: India thrash West Indies by 8 wickets in first ODI
Thiruvananthapuram: India made a commanding start to the three-match Cricket ODI series against the West Indies, securing an emphatic eight-wicket victory in the opening match at the Greenfield International Stadium on Sunday.
India won the toss and opted to bowl first. The West Indies posted 295/7 in 50 overs, with Justin Greaves leading the way with a century.
Greaves scored 101 off 108 balls, while John Campbell contributed 62 off 60 deliveries. Amir Jangoo provided a late boost to the innings, remaining unbeaten on 58 off 43 balls.
Chasing 296, India made the target look relatively comfortable, reaching 296/2 in 41.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.

Captain Shubman Gill continued his impressive form, scoring his first ODI century against the West Indies and 10th century in the format.
The major highlight of India’s run chase was Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 139 off 88 balls. The veteran batter dominated the West Indies bowling attack with 10 fours and nine sixes, ensuring India crossed the finish line with plenty of overs to spare.
The opening game provided India with a comprehensive start to the Cricket series, with Gill and Kohli’s centuries and a disciplined bowling effort setting up a convincing victory.
