DCM Dr Parameshwara Seeks ₹20,585 Crore Central Aid for Karnataka Drought Relief
Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, seeking ₹20,585.73 crore in central assistance to address the impact of drought in the state.
Parameshwara said 226 taluks had been declared drought-affected, with crop damage reported across 57.93 lakh hectares. The total economic loss, calculated on the basis of agricultural input costs, was estimated at ₹62,481.88 crore.
The state has sought central funds to compensate farmers for crop losses, support the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers, ensure drinking water supplies and protect livestock affected by the drought.

The request also includes additional financial assistance under the PM Poshan scheme to ensure nutritious meals for children during summer vacations and address the nutritional needs of other vulnerable sections.
Parameshwara said protecting farmers, children and vulnerable communities from the effects of drought remained a priority for the state government. He stressed the need to provide timely assistance to affected families and safeguard their livelihoods.
The deputy chief minister expressed hope that the Centre would respond promptly to the state’s request and release the necessary funds to support drought-hit communities.
