Sangareddy: Six people, including five women, were killed and six others seriously injured after a speeding tanker truck rammed an auto-rickshaw near Satwar village in Zaheerabad mandal of Telangana’s Sangareddy district.
According to police, the auto-rickshaw was carrying 12 people when the accident occurred. The vehicle was reportedly taking a U-turn when the speeding tanker crashed into it.
All those travelling in the auto were residents of Rajgera village in neighbouring Bidar district of Karnataka, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Rekha, Sridevi, Kavita, Reshma, Nikhita and auto driver Devdas. The six injured — Nirmala, Tuljamma, Chandrakala, Radhika, Shilpa and Shobha — were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and launched rescue operations. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Ishwar Khandre took stock of the condition of the injured undergoing treatment at BRIMS Hospital in Bidar. He spoke to doctors and directed them to provide all necessary medical care.
Khandre also assured the families of the victims of government support. The families of each deceased person will receive ₹5 lakh as compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, he said, adding that the government would stand by both the bereaved families and those injured in the accident.
