Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra has hit out at the state Congress government over alleged farmer distress, claiming that four farmers have died by suicide in August alone amid crop losses and mounting debt.
In a post on social media platform X, Vijayendra said inadequate rainfall had damaged crops, leaving farmers struggling to repay bank and private loans. He accused the state government of failing to adequately address the worsening situation in rural areas.
‘Give ₹50,000 compensation to drought-hit farmers’
Vijayendra alleged that the government had remained indifferent to farmers’ problems even as nearly three months had passed since the state cabinet was reconstituted.
He also criticised Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, alleging that the government was more focused on attempts to acquire farmers’ land and real estate-related activities than addressing agricultural distress.
The BJP leader further took a swipe at the government’s publicity campaigns showcasing its three-year achievements, saying celebrations were being held while farmers were losing their lives.
“If there is even the slightest concern for farmers, give ₹50,000 compensation to every farmer in the state suffering from drought,” Vijayendra urged the government.
He called for immediate intervention to provide financial relief to farmers facing crop losses, debt and the impact of inadequate rainfall.
