Four-laning of key Telangana highways to improve connectivity to pilgrimage hubs, industrial centres
New Delhi: The Centre has approved a ₹7,597.16-crore project to four-lane key stretches of NH-63 and NH-563 in Telangana, a move aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time and boosting tourism, trade and economic activity across the state’s northern districts.
The projects cover 190.76 km, including the Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial section of NH-63, which will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), and the Jagtial-Karimnagar section of NH-563, to be executed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) basis.
According to the government, the upgraded highways will provide faster access to major pilgrimage destinations such as Vemulawada Temple, Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Kaleshwaram Temple and Nagunur Fort, while encouraging multi-destination tourism and creating opportunities for local businesses and hospitality services.
The highway expansion is also expected to strengthen connectivity to key agricultural, industrial and logistics hubs in Nizamabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Siddipet and Warangal. Improved road infrastructure will facilitate faster movement of agricultural produce, seafood, processed food and manufactured goods, lowering logistics costs and improving market access for farmers and industries.
The government said the project aligns with the PM Gati Shakti initiative by linking important economic, logistics and industrial nodes, including food parks and special economic zones, thereby supporting integrated supply chains and regional development.
Once completed, the upgraded corridors will improve connectivity with NH-44, India’s longest north-south highway, as well as NH-363 and NH-163G, strengthening freight movement between Nagpur, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
The project is expected to reduce travel time by around 90 minutes between Armoor and Mancherial and by nearly 45 minutes between Jagtial and Karimnagar, while easing congestion in several densely populated towns along the existing routes.
The Centre said the expansion is designed to address growing traffic volumes and support long-term economic growth by creating a safer, faster and more efficient transport network across northern Telangana.
