Dhaka: Four members of a Hindu family, including a retired schoolteacher, were allegedly murdered inside their home in Rangpur, Bangladesh, with police arresting two neighbours in connection with the case.
The deceased have been identified as Ganapati Chakraborty (65), his wife Pritilata Chakraborty (50), daughter Agami Chakraborty Prathi (23) and son Priyam Chakraborty (12).
According to police, neighbours Siddhartha Das (19) and Mugdha Das (23) had allegedly gone to the rooftop of the house to consume Yaba. When Ganapati noticed them after hearing a noise, the accused allegedly attacked and killed him.
Police said the two subsequently killed Ganapati’s daughter and 12-year-old son when they came out after hearing the commotion. The victims’ faces were allegedly burned using a flammable substance.
Police said the suspects remained inside the house after the killings, where they allegedly consumed food and drugs before attempting to mislead investigators by opening cupboards and drawers and scattering belongings.
The accused allegedly stole jewellery and two mobile phones belonging to the family. Investigators found that the phones had been destroyed by immersing them in water mixed with detergent.
Police have arrested both suspects, who have allegedly confessed to the killings. The stolen jewellery has also been recovered.
Further investigation is underway, including DNA testing of material collected from the crime scene, police said.
