Heavy Rains Batter Mumbai; Building Collapse Leaves Six Dead
Mumbai: Torrential rain continued to lash Mumbai on Sunday, severely disrupting normal life as several areas received 200–300 mm of rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Monday, while schools and colleges have been closed as a precaution.
At least six people were killed after a four-storey building collapsed in the Mankhurd area during the heavy downpour. One person was injured, while another is feared trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are being carried out by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Mumbai Fire Brigade, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and police.
The building near Hanuman Mandir in Janata Nagar, Mankhurd, collapsed on Sunday night. The bodies of four women and two men have been recovered from the rubble.

Heavy rain also caused widespread waterlogging, disrupting road traffic and daily life across the city. Several trees were uprooted due to strong winds. In a separate incident, a 63-year-old man died after a tree fell on him in Kurla.
Another person was killed and two others were injured after a balcony slab collapsed in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors unless necessary and follow official weather advisories as heavy rainfall is expected to continue.
