IMD issues orange alert for Karnataka coast; heavy rain likely till July 30

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Karnataka till the end of July, with an orange alert issued for the coastal region until July 30.

On July 28, an orange alert has been issued for Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts. Dakshina Kannada is likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places.

The IMD has also predicted rain accompanied by winds of 40-50 kmph in Belagavi, Dharwad and Bagalkot districts. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several other districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Ballari, Vijayanagara, Bidar, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir.

According to the forecast, coastal and Malnad districts are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, while interior Karnataka is expected to witness light to moderate rain under cloudy skies.

The IMD and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) have advised fishermen, farmers and the public to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions in view of the forecast.
