Reykjavik: India showcased the richness of its mango heritage in Iceland for the first time, as the Indian Embassy in Reykjavik, in collaboration with APEDA, organised Indian Mango Promotion Events on June 24 and 25 in Reykjavik and Akureyri.

The events highlighted premium Indian mango varieties — Dasheri, Chausa, Langra and Kesar — drawing strong interest from importers, diplomats and Icelandic businesses. Ambassador R. Ravindra underlined the unique flavour profile and quality of Indian mangoes, noting the significant scope for expanding exports to Iceland.

Sveinn K. Einarsson, Director of Trade Agreements at Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, said the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement could open new avenues for greater imports of Indian mangoes. Ólafur Stephensen, Secretary General of the Icelandic Federation of Trade, pointed to growing business interest in India and promising prospects for Indian agricultural products.

Second Secretary Anisha Tomar highlighted India’s status as the world’s largest mango producer and outlined government initiatives to boost exports through quality assurance and market access.

Iceland currently imports mangoes mainly from Thailand, Brazil and Peru, with total imports valued at about USD 3.3 million in 2025. Officials said strong local consumer interest, especially for use in smoothies and desserts, signals clear potential for Indian mangoes in the Icelandic market.
