Kochi: The Indian Navy and US Navy will conduct a five-day Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) exercise at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi from August 10 to 14, aimed at enhancing interoperability and strengthening cooperation between specialist diving and EOD teams of the two forces.

The bilateral exercise will feature subject matter expert exchanges, cross-training sessions, equipment demonstrations and scenario-based practical exercises. Personnel from both navies will exchange expertise on contemporary EOD techniques, emerging technologies and operational best practices.

The exercise is also expected to provide the participating teams with an opportunity to understand each other’s capabilities, operational procedures and approaches to dealing with complex explosive ordnance threats.

According to the Indian Navy, the engagement will promote collaborative learning and operational synergy while helping personnel refine procedures and improve their ability to respond to evolving EOD challenges.

The Indian Navy and US Navy have been conducting joint Salvage and EOD exercises since 2005. The upcoming engagement will be the eighth edition of the specialised bilateral training exercise, highlighting the continued focus on interoperability and professional cooperation in specialised maritime operations.

The exercise comes as part of the broader defence cooperation between India and the US and is expected to further strengthen coordination between the two navies in areas involving underwater operations, explosive ordnance disposal and maritime security.
