Tehran: Iran has conveyed a proposal to the United States through Qatar, but has made it clear that negotiations on a nuclear deal will begin only after seven key demands are met.

The demands include the lifting of US economic sanctions, the release of Iranian assets frozen overseas and compensation for losses suffered during the war. Tehran has also said it will not reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz until its conditions are fulfilled.

Security official Mohsen Rezaei reiterated the demands during a visit to Russia. Washington, meanwhile, has insisted that nuclear-related issues be included in the first round of negotiations.
