Doha: The Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) has relaunched its ‘Kannada Pathashala’ with a renewed focus on helping children of Kannadigas living abroad stay connected with the Kannada language, culture and heritage.

The school’s reopening was formally announced during a Teachers’ Day programme in the presence of Dr Purushottama Bilimale, chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, Government of Karnataka.

Bilimale also conducted a special training workshop for teachers and parents. He offered guidance on age-appropriate Kannada teaching methods, systematic implementation of the curriculum and techniques to make language learning more engaging for children.

The contribution of teachers who have been volunteering their time for the cause of Kannada was appreciated at the programme. Members of the KSQ management committee were also acknowledged for their efforts in reviving the school.

Regular classes have now commenced and will be held every Friday at 9.30am. Students will be grouped into three levels based on their learning abilities. The initiative will continue with the support of the Kannada Development Authority.

To promote a sense of equality and unity among students, KSQ distributed identical T-shirts and water bottles to all children enrolled in the school.

KSQ president Subrahmanya Hebbagilu, advisory committee chairman Dr Ravi Shetty, former president H K Madhu, vice-president Anil Bhasagi, office-bearers, committee members and Kannada enthusiasts attended the programme.

Speakers highlighted the history of Kannada, the pride associated with the language and the importance of preserving one’s mother tongue. KSQ urged more Kannadiga families in Qatar to enrol their children in the school and strengthen their connection with Kannada language and culture.
