New Delhi: A central government team comprising senior officials from various ministries will visit Karnataka from October 3 to 7 to assess the drought situation and its impact on farmers, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday.
Kumaraswamy said he had urged Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to provide urgent assistance to Karnataka amid the severe drought conditions reported across the state.
Thanking Chouhan for responding promptly to his request, Kumaraswamy said the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had constituted the inter-ministerial team to undertake an on-ground assessment.
The team will visit affected areas during the five-day period and assess the situation before further assistance is considered.
Kumaraswamy expressed confidence that the Centre would extend all possible support to Karnataka and farmers affected by the drought.
The visit is expected to provide the Centre with a ground-level assessment of crop losses and the overall impact of the drought, based on which further relief measures can be considered.
