Bengaluru: Karnataka has set an ambitious target of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2037, with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar describing the goal as the government’s “Grand Resolve” for the state’s future growth.
Marking 100 days in office, Shivakumar outlined a roadmap focused on economic expansion, job creation, infrastructure, social welfare and technology, with the government aiming to build a stronger and more equitable Karnataka.
Under the government’s ‘Nava Sankalpa’ initiative, priority is being given to sectors such as health and education.
Shivakumar said the government plans to invest ₹1.5 lakh crore in infrastructure over the next 500 days and attract ₹3 lakh crore in fresh investments to Karnataka.
Water security is another key priority, with the government seeking to accelerate projects including Mekedatu and Yettinahole.
The state has also set social development targets, including bringing poverty and school dropout rates down to zero and reducing malnutrition to below 5%.
The government plans to develop five new major cities as part of its broader urban development strategy.
On employment, Shivakumar said the state is targeting the creation of 1 lakh government jobs and 5 lakh private-sector jobs. The government also aims to provide 5 lakh housing sites to homeless families.
In Bengaluru, the roadmap includes constructing five new Lalbagh-style parks and rejuvenating seven lakes, with the objective of improving the city’s urban environment and quality of life.
Shivakumar said the Mahasankalpa is aimed at creating a Karnataka that is economically strong, socially equitable and technologically advanced.
The government wants the state to emerge as a model for the development of “tomorrow’s India”, with investments in infrastructure, human development, employment and technology forming the foundation of its long-term growth strategy.
