Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to challenge the High Court verdict striking down the increase in reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara said.

Speaking to reporters outside Vidhana Soudha after a Cabinet meeting, Parameshwara confirmed that the government had decided to approach the Supreme Court against the verdict.

He said further legal and administrative options would be examined by the government’s Committee on Political Affairs.

These options include the possibility of placing the reservation issue in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, he added.

The government’s next steps will be decided after discussions within the committee.
