New Delhi: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy held talks with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening India-EU cooperation in electric mobility, batteries, clean energy and industrial decarbonisation.
The discussions come months after the 16th India-EU Summit in January 2026, where negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement were concluded and a Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda was adopted.
Kumaraswamy highlighted key initiatives of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for automobiles and auto components and Advanced Chemistry Cells, along with the PM E-DRIVE scheme. He said the measures are aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, accelerating electric mobility and strengthening India’s EV ecosystem.
The minister also invited European companies to participate in India’s ongoing global bidding process for 10 GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing capacity for stationary energy storage systems. The bidding process is open until October 13, 2026.
Discussions also covered India’s efforts to reduce industrial emissions and support the transition to cleaner energy. Kumaraswamy highlighted indigenous gasification technology being developed by BHEL and initiatives to make the steel sector greener through scrap recycling, steel slag utilisation and circular economy practices.
The European Parliament delegation expressed interest in deeper cooperation with India in clean technologies, sustainable mobility and advanced energy solutions. Members also appreciated India’s efforts to expand electric mobility, strengthen domestic manufacturing and advance industrial decarbonisation.
Kumaraswamy said India and the European Union could combine their respective strengths to accelerate the clean energy transition and develop sustainable transport solutions.
Senior officials, including Heavy Industries and Steel Secretary Kamran Rizvi and Additional Secretary Hanif Qureshi, also attended the meeting.
