Mangaluru jail jammer blamed for mobile network disruptions; technical fix underway
Mangaluru: Technical measures are being taken to address mobile network disruptions reported around the district prison in Mangaluru, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said.
Responding to complaints on X, Kharge said mobile signal jammers installed at the prison were affecting connectivity for residents and others in surrounding areas.
A joint technical survey has already been conducted to assess the issue. Based on its findings, the agency concerned has begun optimising the antenna design and jammer capacity, the minister said.

The government’s objective is to ensure that the jammers continue to serve their intended internal security purpose while minimising unnecessary disruption to mobile services outside the prison premises.
Kharge said further technical measures were being implemented in coordination with telecom service providers to address the connectivity problems.
Efforts to resolve the issue are currently under way, he added.
