Operation Trident: 18 Arrested, ₹100 Crore Hawala Transactions Unearthed in Anti-Drug Crackdown

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that Operation Trident has dealt a major blow to an international narcotics cartel, following coordinated raids across 38 locations in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on October 23.

In a post on X, Shah said the operation uncovered hawala transactions worth ₹100 crore, led to the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts and resulted in the attachment of properties valued at ₹17.82 crore. Authorities also seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash, while 18 people were arrested.

According to Shah, the network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through what he described as the “Death Triangle Corridor”.

The Union minister congratulated the anti-narcotics teams from central agencies and the police forces of the three states for their coordinated action.

Shah said the operation reflected the government’s commitment to eliminating drug networks and reiterated the target of eradicating such networks by December 31, 2029.
