New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide 100-week anti-drug campaign aimed at mobilising young people against substance abuse, with over one crore youth participating virtually from more than 28,000 locations across the country.
Addressing the nationwide event via video conference, Modi said the campaign was not merely about personal health but about safeguarding families, society and the nation’s future. He stressed that achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 requires a physically fit, mentally strong and addiction-free young generation.
“The coming 100 Sundays will become 100 strong steps towards a drug-free India,” the Prime Minister said, outlining a weekly programme of activities including sports, cultural events, meditation and community outreach to keep young people engaged throughout the campaign.
Modi said the initiative evolved from a pilot project launched in Kashi last year and has now grown into a national movement with the support of more than 125 spiritual organisations and several NGOs under the Kashi Declaration.
Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the campaign would become a mass public movement through MY Bharat, which has connected over 2.23 crore youth nationwide by promoting volunteering, leadership and national service. He said the 100-week action plan was designed to strengthen public participation in the fight against substance abuse.
The launch event was attended by Union Minister of State Raksha Nikhil Khadse, 26 Governors, 11 Chief Ministers, NSS volunteers, MY Bharat members and students from across the country.
During his address, Modi warned that drug addiction destroys careers, families and society, urging young people to reject narcotics and remain focused on education, innovation, sports and entrepreneurship. He also appealed to parents, teachers and professors to actively discuss the dangers of substance abuse and support rehabilitation efforts for those struggling with addiction.
The Prime Minister said the government had intensified action against drug trafficking through nationwide crackdowns, large-scale seizures and increased arrests of smugglers, while assuring recovering addicts that they deserve support and a second chance rather than social stigma.
Calling upon every citizen to join the movement, Modi expressed confidence that India’s youth would lead the country towards a healthier, drug-free future while contributing to the vision of a developed India by 2047.
