Pahalgam attack: India calls for action against terror sponsors at UN
NEW YORK: India has once again accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, asserting at the United Nations that there can be no justification for terrorism under any circumstances.
Speaking at the Sixth Committee of the 81st UN General Assembly, BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb said India has the right to protect its people and borders from terrorist threats.
Deb alleged that Pakistan has been supporting cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir by providing shelter, financing and other forms of assistance to terrorist groups. He called for strong international action against countries and entities that support or fund terrorism.

Pahalgam attack cited
Deb referred to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. He said those who planned, financed and sponsored the attack must be held accountable.
India has maintained that perpetrators as well as their supporters and financiers must face international action.
No ‘good’ or ‘bad’ terrorism
India also rejected any attempt to categorise terrorism as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Deb said attacks targeting civilians cannot be justified regardless of the cause or circumstances cited by those behind them.
India renewed its call for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT), a proposal it first introduced in 1996.
The convention has remained unresolved due to differences among countries, including over the definition of terrorism. Discussions on the CCIT are continuing under the UN Sixth Committee’s 2026 agenda.
Pakistan rejects allegations
Pakistan responded to India’s remarks at the UN, rejecting allegations linking it to the Pahalgam attack. Islamabad said India had failed to provide evidence to support its accusations.
The exchange underscored the continuing India-Pakistan war of words over terrorism at the international forum.
