Bengaluru: Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge has accused the BJP of exerting control over the Election Commission and electoral rolls, questioning whether free and fair elections could be expected under such circumstances.

Responding to a statement by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Bengaluru, Kharge alleged that the BJP had gained control over the Election Commission, the Chief Election Commissioner and the electoral rolls.

He also referred to Forms 6 and 7, which are used for adding names to and seeking the removal of names from electoral rolls, respectively, alleging that these processes had also come under the BJP’s influence.

Questioning the need for judicial immunity for the Chief Election Commissioner, Kharge expressed concern over the impartiality of the electoral process.
