Rahul Gandhi targets Amit Shah after Pradhan’s resignation, vows to raise issue in Parliament
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday intensified his attack on the Centre following the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was responsible for the alleged use of force against students protesting over the NEET-UG 2026 controversy.
Addressing reporters, Rahul Gandhi described Pradhan’s resignation as a “victory for students” and said it reflected the impact of sustained public protests over the examination issue.
“This is a victory for India’s students. They are the future of the country,” Rahul Gandhi said, alleging that the country’s education system had suffered due to corruption, inefficiency and policies promoting privatisation. He claimed that Pradhan had become a symbol of the system’s shortcomings and that his resignation marked an important step towards restoring confidence in education.
The Congress MP also alleged that pellet guns had been used against students during recent protests and held Amit Shah “directly responsible” for the alleged police action. He said the Opposition would raise the matter in Parliament and seek accountability from the government.
Rahul Gandhi further said students were expecting an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged the Centre to introduce measures to strengthen the education system. He also criticised the alleged influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on education policy.
Maintaining that Pradhan’s resignation alone was insufficient, Rahul Gandhi demanded action against those allegedly responsible for the use of force on protesting students and called for a review of cases registered against demonstrators.
The Centre had not immediately responded to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations. The claims regarding the alleged use of pellet guns and other accusations made by the Congress leader have not been independently verified.
