New Delhi: Indian Railways has approved ₹170 crore for deploying Kavach Version 4.0 across the remaining 712 Route Kilometres (Rkm) of the Moradabad division under Northern Railway.
The project is aimed at strengthening railway safety infrastructure by expanding the coverage of India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system across the identified sections.
Kavach is designed to provide an additional safety layer for train operations by helping prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) and automatically applying brakes when required to avert potentially unsafe situations.
The system also assists in controlling train speeds under critical conditions and reducing the risk of train collisions.
The approval is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to expand Kavach coverage across the network and modernise signalling and train protection systems.
With the deployment of Kavach 4.0 on the remaining sections of the Moradabad division, the Railways expects to further strengthen operational safety and improve protection against human-error-related incidents during train operations.
