Ramya calls out body-shaming of Katrina Kaif: ‘Every woman is in her prime from birth to her last day’
MUMBAI: Actor and former MP Ramya has come out in support of Katrina Kaif after the Bollywood actor faced social media trolling over changes in her body following motherhood.
Katrina was recently photographed with husband Vicky Kaushal at the Ambani residence during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Photos from the event triggered a series of social media posts commenting on her appearance and comparing her current physique with her earlier looks.
Reacting to the trolling, Ramya took to X to question the practice of dividing a woman’s life into a “prime phase” and an alleged “end phase” based largely on her physical appearance.
Ramya said there should be no conditions attached to the basic principle that a woman should not be body-shamed. “Body-shaming is wrong. Period,” she said, arguing that a person’s financial status or circumstances should not determine whether comments about their body are acceptable.
“In her prime,” as if women come with an expiry date. Who decided a woman’s prime is the handful of years she looks like a magazine cover? Our bodies change through pregnancy, perimenopause and life itself. That isn’t decline. That’s living.

She also questioned who decided that a woman’s “prime” should be limited to the years when she resembles a magazine-cover model.
“A woman’s body changes through pregnancy, perimenopause and different stages of life. That is not decline. That is life,” Ramya said.
According to her, a woman’s best phase should not be defined by a particular waist size or physical appearance. Strength, wisdom, work, happiness and everything she builds over the course of her life should also form part of that definition.
Referring specifically to Katrina, Ramya said the actor is currently in her “prime” and added that every woman remains in her prime from the day she is born until the last day of her life.
Ramya also questioned arguments suggesting that a woman’s body should be treated differently depending on her circumstances. She asked whether a woman with less money could therefore be subjected to body-shaming, or whether changes in weight should be considered acceptable only because someone has had a child.
Her comments come amid growing conversations on social media about body image, postpartum changes and the pressure on female actors to maintain a particular appearance.
