Visakhapatnam: At least seven people were killed in three separate road accidents across north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, while two elderly women died in Palnadu district amid heavy rain and thunder.

In Vizianagaram district, three people were killed on the spot after a speeding truck rammed an auto-rickshaw near Shikaruganti village in Dattirajeru mandal early Sunday. The deceased were identified as auto driver G Tirupati, farmer T Adinarayana and fish vendor G Ramu.

According to police, the auto was travelling from Gajapathinagaram when the truck collided with it near Shikaruganti junction. Preliminary investigation suggested excessive speed could have led to the crash. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Two people died in another accident at Makavaram in Anakapalli district after a tractor carrying them overturned while they were reportedly travelling to a quarry for drilling work.

In Visakhapatnam district, two youths were killed when a lorry collided with their motorcycle near the Kurmannapalem bus depot. Both reportedly died on the spot.

The accidents have raised fresh concerns over road safety in the region, particularly amid adverse weather conditions and poor visibility.

Meanwhile, two women died in separate incidents in Palnadu district following heavy rain and intense thunder in the Narasaraopet area on Saturday night.

One death was reported from Petlurivaripalem village and another from Lakshmipuram. The deceased were identified as Nagamma, 63, and Mekala Venkayyamma, 60.

Officials suspect that both women may have suffered cardiac arrests following the frightening thunderclaps. Further details are awaited as authorities assess the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
