Vijayapura: Six members of the same family, including four children and two women, were found dead in Bhootnal Lake on the outskirts of Vijayapura, triggering shock in the district.

The deceased have been identified as Shobha Jalageri (45), who had reportedly been missing since August 24, and her five children — Vidya (16), Suvarna (14), Gaudesh (10), Vikas (5) and Sanika (7).

According to police, local residents noticed the bodies floating near the edge of the lake and alerted the authorities. City DySP Nagaraj, Adarsh Nagar PSI Sitaram Lamani and fire and rescue personnel reached the spot and recovered all six bodies.

Police suspect that a family dispute may have played a role, though the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths have not yet been established.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the precise cause of death will be determined based on the autopsy findings and the ongoing investigation.

A case has been registered at Adarsh Nagar police station, and officials are investigating the circumstances that led to the deaths.
