Supply Chain Security, Resilience Critical for Global Economy: Jaishankar
Atlanta: Securing and strengthening the resilience of global supply chains is essential for sustaining the world economy, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said at the G20 meeting in Atlanta.
Addressing the third plenary session on supply chains, Jaishankar called on member countries to support the right to industrialisation and firmly oppose unfair trade practices that undermine competition.
He said global supply networks faced growing risks from pandemics, conflicts, climate-related disruptions and other unforeseen events. Diversifying production and connectivity networks, along with measures to reduce vulnerabilities, was necessary to address these challenges.
Jaishankar said expanding global manufacturing across different geographical regions could help prevent the weaponisation of finance, resources, production capacity and market access.
He urged G20 countries to work together to prevent the politicisation of markets and balance national interests with broader global priorities.
The minister also stressed the need to promote transparent and diversified supply chains, saying a multi-stakeholder approach was essential to building a more resilient global economic system.
