Chennai: Rain is likely to continue across several parts of Tamil Nadu till Independence Day, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasting moderate showers, thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas.

The weather department said an atmospheric circulation over the coastal region of north Tamil Nadu is likely to influence weather conditions over the state in the coming days. Light to moderate rain is expected in several districts on Monday, while wind speeds could touch 50 kmph during thunderstorms.

Rain activity is expected to intensify in the Western Ghats and northern coastal districts on August 12 and 13, with moist winds and favourable atmospheric conditions likely to trigger moderate showers. Other parts of Tamil Nadu may also receive scattered rainfall.

The rainy spell is expected to continue through August 15. While widespread heavy rainfall is not currently forecast, the RMC has advised people to exercise caution as thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds could occur in isolated areas.

Coastal districts Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are expected to witness continued rainfall, keeping the region under predominantly wet conditions.
