New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday said the University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a unified online portal to streamline the grant of 2(f) and 12B status to higher educational institutions, as part of its push for transparent and time-bound regulatory reforms.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said the UGC has developed several digital platforms for granting autonomous status to colleges, deemed-to-be university status, and approvals for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes.
The newly launched unified portal integrates the recognition process for institutions seeking 2(f) and 12B status, replacing multiple procedures with a single online system aimed at improving efficiency and transparency.
The minister also said the proposed Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, seeks to establish a technology-driven single-window regulatory system for higher education based on public self-disclosure.
The Bill, which aims to simplify regulatory processes, reduce discretion and enhance accountability, has been referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament for detailed examination.
