New Delhi: BJP national president Nitin Nabin has criticised the Congress Working Committee’s decision to sing only the first two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ at party programmes, accusing the party of deliberately disrespecting the national song.
The Congress had on Wednesday decided to follow the 1937 CWC resolution, under which only the first two stanzas of the song would be sung at its programmes.
Reacting to the decision, Nabin said the Congress had now “officialised its insult” of Vande Mataram through a formal resolution.
He also referred to the recent controversy over the playing of the complete version of Vande Mataram during an Independence Day programme at the Congress headquarters. BJP leaders had claimed that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was unhappy with the move, while the Congress had described the incident as a coincidence.
“Earlier, the shame seen in a person’s behaviour was called a coincidence. Now the same shame has become the policy of the Congress,” Nabin said in a post on X.
Accusing the Congress of pursuing vote-bank politics, the BJP leader further attacked the party, saying, “The Congress has become the new Muslim League.”
