New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday said it is taking a series of measures to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to improve productivity, innovation and competitiveness.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje said the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is implementing the IndiaAI Mission, approved on March 7, 2024, with a total outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore.
The mission is built around seven key pillars—IndiaAI Compute Capacity, IndiaAI Innovation Centre, IndiaAI Datasets Platform, IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, IndiaAI Future Skills, IndiaAI Startup Financing, and Safe & Trusted AI. These initiatives aim to democratise access to AI, strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem and promote responsible, inclusive and socially impactful use of artificial intelligence.
The government said the mission is designed to support AI adoption across sectors, including MSMEs, enabling enterprises to enhance operational efficiency, improve productivity and strengthen their competitiveness.
The Centre also said it periodically evaluates the extent of digital adoption among MSMEs through research and assessment studies conducted in collaboration with industry bodies and research institutions.
In addition, the Output-Outcome Monitoring Framework (OOMF) developed by NITI Aayog is being used as an institutional mechanism to assess the outcomes and impact of government initiatives aimed at promoting digital transformation in the MSME sector.
The government said the initiatives form part of its broader strategy to encourage technology-driven growth and improve the competitiveness of India’s MSMEs in the digital economy.
