New Delhi: India on Saturday unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, set to begin on June 12 in England and Wales, with a mix of fresh faces and experienced campaigners.
Young pacer Nandini Sharma received her maiden call-up after an impressive run in the Women’s Premier League, while wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia also returns to the squad.
Veteran all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side, with Smriti Mandhana named as her deputy.
However, there were notable omissions as specialist batters Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol were left out of the T20 squad. All-rounders Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam miss out due to injuries.

Interestingly, Rawal has been picked for the one-off Test against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground from July 10-13, while Deol is set to captain India A in the upcoming ODI series.
Nandini’s inclusion comes on the back of her standout WPL season, where she claimed 17 wickets in 10 matches for Delhi Capitals. She had also represented India in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament earlier this year.
Among other absentees is experienced all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar. The pace attack will instead feature Renuka Singh Thakur, Arundhati Reddy and Kranti Gowda.
The batting line-up is expected to revolve around Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues at the top, followed by the likes of Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma in the middle order. Emerging player Bharti Fulmali is also expected to add depth to the lower order.
In the spin department, India have included Deepti along with Shreyanka Patil, Sri Charani and Radha Yadav, who returns after missing action since last year’s England tour.
With a squad closely resembling the one that clinched the Women’s ODI World Cup last year, India will be aiming to carry forward their winning momentum onto the global T20 stage.
