Bengaluru Air pollution is no longer merely an environmental concern but a serious public health threat, with potentially harmful consequences for heart and respiratory health, Lok Sabha MP and renowned cardiologist Dr C.N. Manjunath has warned.

Manjunath raised the issue at a roundtable meeting organised by the Vayu Respiratory Foundation on Church Street in Bengaluru to discuss the health risks associated with air pollution and the need for urgent preventive measures.

“As a cardiologist, I am deeply concerned about its growing impact on heart health, increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes and lung cancer,” he said.

Calling for coordinated action to improve air quality, Manjunath identified stronger public transportation, expanded Metro connectivity, cleaner fuels, scientific waste management and effective dust control as key measures.

He stressed that tackling air pollution required preventive action and collective efforts to protect public health.

“Clean air is not a luxury; it is a necessity for a healthy life,” Manjunath said, urging stakeholders to work together to secure a healthier environment for future generations.

The roundtable focused on the health implications of air pollution and the importance of adopting practical measures to reduce exposure and improve urban air quality.
