Ajit Pawar plane crash: ‘Don’t politicise tragedy,’ Sunetra Pawar appeals

PUNE: Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar urged political leaders not to politicise the plane crash that claimed the life of her husband and former Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar, saying the family was awaiting the outcome of the ongoing probe.

Her appeal came after NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule questioned why an FIR had not been registered in connection with the crash.

“None can feel the pain of Ajit Dada’s loss more than his mother, children and me. No one should politicise such a sensitive issue,” Sunetra told reporters in Pune.

She said the family expected clarity on the circumstances surrounding the crash soon. Sunetra added that she had already met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah in connection with the matter.

The deputy CM said the investigation was progressing in line with the assurance given by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state assembly. She urged people to allow investigating agencies sufficient time to complete their procedures. “We have complete faith in the Constitution and the law,” Sunetra said.

Earlier, Supriya Sule had questioned the reported absence of an FIR in the case and criticised Ajit Pawar’s faction for allegedly focusing on power rather than seeking justice.

Ajit Pawar died on January 28 after the Learjet 45 aircraft (VT-SSK), travelling from Mumbai to Baramati, crashed at Baramati airport. Four other people aboard the aircraft also died.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is probing the crash. The Union civil aviation ministry has said speculation should be avoided until the investigation is completed.
