‘Are You Above the Law, Constitution?’ Kharge Targets Modi Over Replies to Opposition
Kalaburagi (Karnataka): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Centre’s response to opposition leaders, alleging that the PM was using other leaders as intermediaries instead of responding to their concerns directly.
Referring to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Kharge alleged that they were being used as “fronts” by the Prime Minister. He claimed that Modi did not respond to opposition leaders himself and instead had others draft replies to their communications.
“We write to him, and he gets someone else to draft the reply. What does this mean?” Kharge asked, accusing the Prime Minister of insulting opposition leaders and political parties.

Kharge said the government should take cognisance of concerns raised by the opposition and respond to them directly. He questioned whether the Prime Minister considered himself above the law or the Constitution.
“You are one MP among 543, and you are number one among them. That does not mean that you can do whatever you want,” Kharge said.
