Ayush ministry steps up AI push to strengthen Ayurveda, traditional medicine
New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush is expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Ayurveda and other traditional medicine systems, building on the digital infrastructure created through the Ayush Grid.
The ministry is exploring AI applications in healthcare, research, education, information services and investment facilitation, with several specialised AI tools already being developed or deployed.
Among the citizen-facing initiatives is the MAISP Chatbot, which provides conversational access to information related to Ayurveda and other Ayush systems. The ARP Research Assistant, powered by generative AI, is designed to help researchers navigate Ayurveda and other Ayush literature through the Ayush Research Portal.
The ministry has also introduced the eLMS Chatbot for student life-cycle management in Ayush educational institutions and the e-CHARAK Chatbot, which provides conversational assistance related to medicinal-plant trade. Yoga Saarthi offers AI-based yoga recommendations, while Nivesh Saarthi is aimed at assisting investors seeking information on the Ayush sector.

The ministry’s AI initiatives also received international attention at the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026, where a World Health Organization-partnered AI Impact Casebook featured an Ayush ministry case study titled “AI-driven Decision Support for Ayurveda: A Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Approach.”
The ministry is also participating in the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, focusing on applications such as voice-enabled electronic health records, disease-trend detection and personalised treatment-support systems.
A technical brief released jointly by WHO, ITU and WIPO on July 11, 2025, examined the potential applications of AI in traditional medicine while stressing the need for responsible, evidence-based and culturally appropriate approaches.
The Ministry of Ayush has further partnered with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), MeitY, to explore AI, language technologies, digital health and advanced computing. Ayush-related digital resources are also being made available through AI Kosh to support research and wider dissemination.
Through the Bhashini collaboration, Ayush Grid portals are now available in 22 scheduled Indian languages, expanding access for practitioners, students and citizens.
The ministry said the objective of integrating AI into Ayush is to complement traditional knowledge by making it more accessible, searchable and evidence-oriented, rather than replacing traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with technology.
