Bengaluru: BJP MLC C.T. Ravi has questioned whether Karnataka is becoming a new haven for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, alleging that the Congress government has failed to curb unlawful infiltration into the state.
In a post on social media platform X, Ravi referred to reports claiming that Bangladeshi nationals had illegally settled in Mandya district and demanded immediate action from the state government.
He claimed that illegal immigration from Bangladesh had been largely brought under control after the BJP came to power in several northeastern states. He accused the Congress and INDIA bloc parties of using illegal immigrants for vote-bank politics.
Raising questions over the state’s handling of the issue, Ravi asked whether the Congress government was turning Karnataka into a safe haven for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He also sought a response from the state leadership on the matter.
“Karnataka belongs to Kannadigas and Indians, not illegal immigrants,” Ravi said, expressing concern that illegal infiltration could aggravate law and order challenges at a time when the state was already facing issues such as robberies, sexual offences and drug-related crimes.
He urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into how the alleged immigrants entered the state, identify those responsible for facilitating their entry, and take appropriate action. Ravi also asserted that the BJP would oppose any attempt to regularise illegal immigrants for political gain.
