New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday said it has provided over ₹30 crore in financial assistance to Karnataka over the past three years to strengthen cooperative institutions through digitisation, infrastructure development and capacity building.

In a written reply in Parliament, the Ministry of Cooperation said 5,894 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in Karnataka have been brought under the Centre’s PACS computerisation project. Of this, ₹27.58 crore has been released since the project’s inception for hardware, software integration and digitisation.

The Centre has also sanctioned ₹1.30 crore for the computerisation of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies’ office and ₹1.28 crore for digitising Agricultural and Rural Development Banks (ARDBs) in the state.

As part of the Decentralised Grain Storage Programme, Ekamba PACS in Bidar district has been selected as the pilot project. The initiative includes the construction of a 1,000-metric-tonne warehouse, a primary processing unit, an auction hall and an oil extraction unit, with refinance assistance of ₹112.57 lakh released through the Karnataka State Cooperative Bank.

The government said 267 new Multi-Purpose PACS have been formed in Karnataka since February 2023, while 13 District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) have adopted Core Banking Solution (CBS) platforms. NABARD has also reimbursed ₹2.44 crore during 2025-26 to three cooperative training institutes in Karnataka for conducting 112 capacity-building programmes.

The ministry added that no proposal from Karnataka is currently pending for approval and said the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) continues to support cooperative societies in the state through financing, infrastructure development and capacity-building initiatives.
